Scottish financial services being promoted in Japan

Gordon Arthur, Interim Chief Executive of Scottish Financial Enterprise (SFE), is participating in a trade mission to Tokyo where he is attending a series of high level meetings and events. The visit, from 6 to 8 November, will help to raise the profile of Scotland’s financial services industry in Japan and is being organised by Scottish Development International (SDI). Also taking part in the mission are Jack Perry, Chief Executive of Scottish Enterprise, and Mark McMullen, Financial Services Head of Trade and Investment for SDI.

Mr Arthur will be giving a keynote speech in Tokyo at the residence of the British Ambassador to Japan on 7 November, at a UK Trade & Investment seminar entitled ‘The City – Leadership through Innovation’. He will focus on the competitiveness of Scotland as a key centre for international financial services companies under the banner ‘Scotland: a Financial Centre of Excellence’. The seminar will be attended by more than 100 senior business figures in Japan, from both indigenous and international organisations, as well as members of the Japanese press.

The delegation is also holding a series of engagement meetings with Japanese financial services companies to discuss collaboration opportunities, illustrate the key strengths of Scotland’s financial services industry, and highlight how the industry in Scotland is differentiated from other markets around the world.

Gordon Arthur said: “The financial services industry in Scotland offers a high-quality environment for companies to invest and be located in. This visit to Tokyo provides a valuable opportunity to highlight the strengths and competitiveness of the industry in Scotland, positioning it as a financial centre of excellence from which international companies can service a global client-base.”

Jack Perry added: “Scotland is internationally recognised as one of the most important financial centres in Europe.  This trade mission will help provide a platform on which to build on that reputation and generate greater awareness and understanding of Scotland’s assets within the financial services sector.”
